Key Issues

Key issues in the way of a peaceful solution to the Israel/Palestinian conflict:

All Israeli settlement activity in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is illegal, as it violates Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, the prohibition against acquiring territory by force, the Palestinian right of self-determination, as well as UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. The United Nations, the International Court of Justice, and the overwhelming majority of states share this view. Israel to Impose its Own Final Status Vision

Despite widespread international opposition, Israel continues to use the Wall and other elements of its ever-expanding settlement enterprise in the occupied Palestinian territory to unilaterally impose its own final status vision on the ground. Learn more about Israel's revised wall route.

Military Raids

Israel is Confiscating More Portions of East Jerusalem

On 24th of September 2007, the Israeli military issued an order to confiscate more than 1,100 dunums of Palestinian land in the Jerusalem Governorate for the construction of a new road. The road reinforces and facilitates Israel’s colony expansion east of East Jerusalem. Learn more about Israel’s colony expansion.

The Israeli government is constructing Jewish only housing units along with synagogues right in middle of very crowded Christian and Muslim quarters in Jerusalem. These Jewish only homes inside the Old City of Jerusalem are meant to control as much as possible of the Old City.  Learn more about Israeli actions that threaten peace in Jerusalem.

The Israeli government has a policy of maintaining the Jewish majority in Jerusalem by a ratio of 73.5% to 26.5%. The Israeli policy has been implemented since 1967 in Jerusalem to reduce the Palestinian presence in the city and these measures included the controlling and revoking identity card holders inside the city. As Jerusalemites, in 1967 when Palestinians were occupied by Israel, they were given identity cards to indicate that they are residents of the city of Jerusalem. But are not citizens of Israel - simply residents. As residents, Palestinians are given permanent residency if they stay in the city, and if their centre of life is in the city. But if they live outside of city for seven years, then they have no right to come back. Learn more about Jerusalem ID cards.
